Uphill is made by PetriCore Labs, a sole trader registered in the Netherlands (KvK 99386852). PetriCore Labs is responsible for your data. Questions or requests: hello@uphillgame.com.
The short version: no ads, no tracking, nothing sold. You can play without giving us anything.
If you just play
- Your progress (scores, streak, garden, wardrobe, settings) is saved in your own browser, not on our servers. Clearing your browser data deletes it.
- Your answers are logged anonymously so we can see which questions are too hard or too easy: the day, the question, the answer you picked and whether it was right, under a random number made for that run. No account, name or IP address is stored with them.
- Your IP address is used briefly to stop abuse (for example, too many sign-in attempts or answers from one place). It is kept as a counter for a short time and not linked to anything else.
If you make an account
- Your email address, to send you sign-in codes and to know your account is yours.
- Sign-in codes are stored scrambled (hashed) and expire after 10 minutes.
- One cookie, which keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. It's needed for the account to work; there are no other cookies.
- Your results: the days you played, your scores and streak, and the wardrobe items you've earned, so they're the same on every device.
If you buy Uphill+
Payments are handled by our payment provider, who sells Uphill+ on our behalf as the "merchant of record" and handles tax. They collect your payment details under their own privacy policy; we never see your card. We receive your email address, an order number and what you bought, so we can give it to your account.
If you send us a suggestion or bug report
We keep what you write, and your name and email if you give them (they're optional), to read it, reply, and credit you if your question is used.
Who else handles your data
- Cloudflare hosts the game and its database.
- Resend sends the sign-in emails, and passes suggestions and bug reports on to our inbox.
- Google Fonts serves the game's fonts, so Google sees your IP address when the page loads.
- Our payment provider, if you buy something.
Some of these are outside the EU. They're covered by the EU's standard data protection contracts or adequacy decisions.
Why we're allowed to
Accounts and purchases: to provide what you asked for (a contract). Anonymous answer stats and abuse protection: our legitimate interest in keeping the game fair, working and well made.
How long we keep it
Account data stays until you ask us to delete it. Anonymous answer stats are kept to improve the questions. Messages you send are kept as long as they're useful, then deleted.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, or object to how we use it: email hello@uphillgame.com from your account's address. If you're unhappy with how we've handled it, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or the one where you live.
Children
Anyone can play without an account. To make an account or buy Uphill+ you must be 16 or over, or have a parent's permission.
Changes
If this changes in a way that matters, we'll say so in the game.
